Fertilizer Berth at Vishakhapatnam Port

  • IL&FS Maritime, in joint venture with ALBA Asia Pvt. Ltd is developing Mechanized Fertilizer Handling Facilities at EQ7 berth in the Inner Harbour of Visakhapatnam Port on DBFOT basis for a Concession Period of 30 years.

  • The Fertilizer Berth shall have an estimated cargo handling capacity of 5.21 MTPA

  • Visakhapatnam Port Trust is strategically located in Bay of Bengal in close proximity to fertilizers deficient states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal as well as other landlocked states such a Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh

  • The facility shall include mechanised conveying and storing the fertilizer unloaded in silos/storage sheds located at designated locations, delivering part of the stored fertilizer for bagging and dispatch by the agencies engaged in the trade at their existing storage warehouses and bagging the balanced part of the fertilizer using bagging plants and loading the bags into the wagons at the project facility

    • Daily output of up to 35,000 MT
    • Covered stacking capacity of 225,000 MT

  • GOI is emphasizing on the balanced use of fertilizers (N:P:K) and, therefore, an increase in the import requirement of these finished fertilizers namely Diammoniun Phospoate (DAP) and Muriate of Postash (MOP) fertilizers is anticipated since their demand is met by imports

  • India has been traditionally dependent on imports to meet the requirements for fertilizer consumption and is highly deficient in phosphate & potassic reserves

  • The strategic location of Visakhapatnam Port provides significant logistics benefits for fertilizer imports to cater to the needs of states that are deficit in respect of fertilizers (Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal) as well as other landlocked states such a Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh

  • The major importers of finished fertilizers through Vishakhapatnam Port are Indian Potash Ltd. (IPL), Nagarjuna Fertilizers Ltd., Krishak Bharathi Cooperative Ltd.(KRIBCO) and Indian Farmers & Fertilizers Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO)
