Cuddalore Coal Logistics

  • IL&FS Group Company, ITPCL is developing a 3,600 MW Thermal Power Plant at Cuddalore and has a license from Tamil Nadu Maritime Board (TNMB)to develop a port for captive use

  • IL&FS Maritime has been mandated to develop the captive port, for Thermal Power Plant, through its subsidiary with a coal handling capacity of 15 MTPA and only 4.5 MTPA for Phase I

  • For Phase I, IL&FS Maritime has facilitated an interim arrangement of handling the imported coal requirements of 4.5 MTPA for ITPCL through Karaikal Port (KPPL) which is approx. 110 km north of the Thermal Power Plant at Cuddalore

The Arrangement
  • Karaikal Port is a commercial port owned by Karaikal Port Pvt. Ltd (KPPL) on concession from the Govt. of Pondicherry. Coal to be unloaded at Karaikal Port, rail transported to Thermal Power Plant & unloaded by Track Hopper system connected to TPP’s conveyor system

    • IL&FS Maritime is the logistics services provider to ITPCL, through KPPL to handle coal imports up to 4.5 MTPA for 10 yrs

    • First vessel carrying imported coal successfully KPP in June 2015
